STORED ON FIRE!

STORED ON FIRE!

YOUR AR SHOULD BE OPERATING AT ITS BEST AT ALL TIMES. WHICH BRINGS ME TO STORING YOUR WEAPON; THE PLACE WHERE A LOT OF WEAPONS SPEND THE MAJOITY OF ITS TIME IN MOST CASES. IN THE CASE OF THE AR, WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THE INTERNAL SPRING ASSEMBLY. WHEN YOU GO TO PLACE YOUR WEAPON IN YOUR SAFE, MOST PLACE THE WEAPON ITSELF ON SAFE. IN MOST CASES, THIS IS THE CORRECT WAY TO STORE MOST WEAPONS, BUT WHEN IT COME TO THE AR PLATFORM (AT LEAST THE ONES I HAVE BEEN AROUND) THE ONLY WAY IT CAN BE PLACED ON SAFE IS WITH A CYCLE OF THE BOLT. WITH THE AR PULLING THE BOLT BACK MEANS ALL OF YOUR TRIGGER SPRINGS ARE COMPRESSED. LEAVING THEM LIKE THIS FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME CAN WEAKEN THE SPRINGS THAT CONTROL YOUR TRIGGER-TO-HAMMER FUNCTION. TO PREVENT THIS, WE UNLOAD AND STORE OUR AR ON FIRE SO THAT EVERYTHING IN THE WEAPON IS AS RESTED AND RELAXED AS THEY CAN BE.

TO DO THIS YOU WILL WANT TO POINT THE WEAPON IN A SAFE DIRECTION, REMOVE THE MAGAZINE FROM THE WEAPON, THEN PULL THE CHARGING HANDLE AND LOCK IT TO THE REAR SO THAT TO EJECT ANY AMMO OR BRASS FROM THE CHAMBER IMMEDIATELY PLACING THE WEAPON ON SAFE TO ENSURE YOUR WEAPON IS CLEAR AND SAFE TO HANDLE. ONCE YOUR WEAPON IS CLEAR AND ON SAFE:

YOU WILL WANT TO RELEASE YOUR BOLT (HOW YOU DO THIS IS YOUR CHOICE) I RECOMMEND PULLING YOUR CHARGING HANDLE TO THE REAR UNTIL THE BOLT RELEASES, AND THEN SLOWLY MOVING IT FORWARD. ALL THE WHILE KEEPING THE WEAPON ON SAFE. THE NEXT THING IS TO RELEASE THE HAMMER, DUE TO THE FACT THAT ONCE THE WEAPON IS CHARGED THE HAMMER IS IN THE FIRE POSITION. AGAIN, HOW YOU DO THIS IS YOUR CHOICE, I RECOMMEND REMOVING THE REAR TAKE DOWN PIN AND OPENING THE WEAPON (YOU WILL NOTICE YOUR HAMMER IS BACK, THIS IS THE REASON FOR OPENING THE WEAPON, WE WANT TO RELEASE THE HAMMER WITHOUT DRY-FIRING IT). PLACE YOUR THUMB ON THE HAMMER, TAKING THE WEAPON FROM SAFE TO FIRE, SLOWLY PULLING THE TRIGGER, AND THEN SLOWLY RELEASING THE HAMMER INTO THE RELAXED POSITION. ONCE THE HAMMER IS RELEASED AND IN ITS RELAXED POSITION WE CAN CLOSE UP OUR WEAPON LEAVING IT IN THE FIRE POSITION.

YOUR WEAPON IS THEN READY FOR STORAGE. SOME WOULD SAY THIS IS FOR LONG TERM STORAGE, BUT I WOULD LIKE MY WEAPON IN THE BEST POSSIBLE CONDITION AT ALL TIMES. ANYTHING THAT WILL EXPAND ITS LIFE IS WORTH DOING.

REMEMBER WEAPON SAFETY IS NUMBER ONE, MY 3-YEAR-OLD WILL TELL YOU WE ALL HAVE OUR OWN SAFETY BEFORE THE WEAPON SAFETY SHOULD EVER BE A THOUGHT.
